Omaha, a global capital for contemporary art? We’re closer than you think.
Acknowledged by Jane Alexander, former Chair of the NEA, as “one of the great treasures of its kind in the country,” the Bemis Center’s internationally recognized programming routinely draws attention to Omaha’s cultural leadership from New York to LA, London to Tokyo. Now, you can do your part by joining us for this year’s Art Auction and Gala. Whether buying art by some of the most important artists working today or pledging support for local, national, and international artists working at the Bemis Center, your gift will move Omaha one step closer to becoming a global capital for contemporary art.
Guests at the Bemis Center will enjoy two exhibitions for the evening. The first comprises works of art for sale by artists from the Bemis Center’s acclaimed artist residency program and from throughout the Midwest, organized by Kansas City curatorial collective PLUG PROJECTS. The second features an intimate exploration of American identity by artist Mel Ziegler, a historic leader in the development of integrated artistic practice. The evening concludes with a live auction conducted by Christie’s and features exclusive experience packages and artwork by some of the most well-regarded artists now working locally, nationally, and internationally, including: Betty Woodman, Theaster Gates, Jann Haworth, Mel Ziegler, Rebecca Campbell,Vera Mercer, Laurie Victor Kay, Jun Kaneko, Catherine Ferguson, and Christo.
